Maundbury Historical Society is one of the oldest social and educational groups in Maundbury. It was founded in 1770 by Hamilton Armitage . Although he was listed as the founder he took no interest in the day to day running of the society. That fell to Andrew Tompkins. Andrew had an interest in local lore and would often seek out the Native Americans to record their tales of the area.

The society was first housed in town hall. When the collection became too big, in 1930 they began to look for a larger and safer place to house the collection. In 1959, the town voted to give the Society a perment place in the Chrisfield Manor .
